FAQ
-
When should I arrive? Please arrive 15 minutes before your first appointment in order to complete all necessary paperwork.
-
What should I bring?Photo identification* (Valid Driver’s License, Valid State ID, School ID Card, or Valid Passport) Prescription/doctor referral Insurance card
-
What should I wear? You should wear loose fitting clothing so you can expose the area that we will be evaluating and treating. For example, if you have a knee problem, it is best to wear shorts. For a shoulder problem, a tank top is a good choice, and for low back problems, wear a loose fitting shirt and pants, again so we can perform a thorough examination.
-
When my doctor recommends therapy, do I have a choice in providers?Yes, if you need physical therapy, YOU DO HAVE A CHOICE when selecting your provider. We encourage you to explore all your options, and when you do, we're confident that you'll find that Smoky Mountain Sports Medicine & Physical Therapy will exceed your expectations.
-
How long will each treatment last?Treatment sessions typically last around 45 minutes per visit.
-
Do you communicate my progress to my doctor?Yes, on a regular basis we send your referring physician an update on the progress you have made in physical therapy. If you wish a copy of this update be sent to any other physician please inform your therapist and we will be glad to do so.
-
Is the SMSMPT TPI certified Physical Therapist (PT) a teaching golf pro?No.
-
What is the benefit of having a Video Swing Analysis done if the PT is not a teaching golf pro?The swing analysis allows the PT to identify swing characteristics that COULD be caused by physical limitations. The PT will use the video to assess the golfer’s movement in tandem with the Movement Screen, to develop appropriate exercises/drills.
-
Why is the Movement screen evaluation + 1 treatment necessary? In order for an individual to receive a thorough TPI functional screen and instruction of HEP, 2 visits are needed.
-
Does insurance pay for TPI evaluations?Generally, no. If a golfer is being seen in SMSMPT’s clinic for a related medical diagnosis, TPI golf specific screening and exercises may be incorporated. However, insurance cannot be billed for “wellness” or “injury prevention” visits.
-
What do I need to bring to the initial Movement Screen visit?Golf clubs, mobile phone to download MyTPI app, insurance card (if applicable) and means of payment.
-
